Welcome to MEGA - Martin Edwards Goalkeeping Academy.
Why Choose MEGA?
Could YOU be the next Ben Foster or Paul Robinson? Here's the place to start!!
It's clear that our top flight league is dominated by goalkeepers from overseas; Italy, Germany, Australia and America to name a few. The development of keepers in these countries is taken very seriously, and the earlier goalkeepers can be positively influenced the better.
MEGA provides a fantastic opportunity for young goalkeepers to learn new or fine tune existing skills required to develop into a competent and confident goalkeeper.
Martin Edwards is a fully qualified, experienced goalkeeping coach. At MEGA we can offer top-quality, enthusiastic, supportive and affordable goalkeeping coaching throughout the London area for all abilities: men, women, and young keepers all welcome!
There are sessions every Saturday morning for Under 11s and Under 16s in Wanstead so call Martin now to book your place! Also now booking for Summer holiday courses at our West London venue, Ruislip Manor and our regular Wanstead venue too - see ‘Next Courses’ for more details. Booking is essential for all sessions.
Martin has great experience working with young keepers at Spurs , Middlesbrough, Leyton Orient, in the USA and for the FA. Martin is currently working for QPR and Fulham.
Martin is in constant contact with clubs at all levels. If a club needs a goalkeeper for a certain age group, they will ask him to take his best MEGA keepers down to their training ground, and put on a session to showcase their talents. And if a young keeper is showing exceptional promise, Martin will call the clubs to alert them. MEGA hold regular trial sessions at clubs such as West Ham, Charlton, QPR and Wycombe Wanderers.
Beginners
Goalkeeping coaching should be tailor made to suit each individual gk.
The coach should build the gks techniques from a solid foundation of basic handling, footwork, body shape, balance and diving techs.
A variety of serves and angles should be used to encourage correct saving decisions.
Development
A very important stage in a goalkeepers career.
Introduction to match situations. 1v1s, High diving, high crosses, reactions, distribution, communication, saving on the move, phases of play and ssg.
Also, like beginners, basics would be fine tuned and practiced but the serves would be more rapid and they would start to come in sets so they would need to be set and ready to save the next ball immediately.
A good level of consistency should also be reached so concentration is paramount!
Advanced
Advanced training should incorporate all aspects of basic and development training but should be of the highest possible tempo so they are fully prepared to play the game at a high level and be comfortable and confident whilst doing so.
At this point of the goalkeepers training any fine adjustments of their techniques can be made also fitness, strength, SAQ and psychology will be developed and maintained.
